Keith Shurville Introduced the Evening. Home
Welcome to all the former players present together with their guests
Keith Shurville
We are just a few days over 40 years since we played our last game together and almost the same period has expired since some of us have probably seen each other. This re-union actually started in April 1992 when Dave Toseland wrote me a letter congratulating me on becoming an Old Fart. Having made contact we then met up with Barry Waite when he was visiting Northampton and the idea arose from there. Little was done for some time but we eventually pulled our fingers out and with the aid of the Internet have found you all.
Apologies
Paul Toombes Paul Warburton are both disappointed that business has stopped them from attending and send their best wishes. Bob Taylor would have been delighted to have been here but his RFU duties have taken him to London to entertain the French before tomorrow international. Steve Grant was the only person that we have not made actual contact with although his mother has passed on messages
Reflections on school rugby career
Beery Ward was my first Rugby Master and he was instrumental in pushing me into the role of hooker. Prok expelled?
Brett Tussler took over when we reached the 2nd XV at the 1st meeting we were promised a pack of 20 fags for any broken legs caused by a fair tackle.
Sixth Form entry — Harry Wrenn interview (Keith expanded on these notes by stating that Harry said the only reason Keith was being allowed to enter the sixth was because Mr. Sparrow wanted him in his first XV!)
Tony Sparrow then proceeded mould a team with the most amazing spirit that saw us achieve what we did. In later years I have played in some spirited teams but I believe that nothing can compare with what we had then and hence why we are all here tonight.
Hope you all have a good evening and I will pass you on to Barry to talk about Mr. Sparrow. Return to rugby reunion web page
