Striking record of successes by the pupils.  One boy alone, for the fourth year in succession, failed to get his ordinary level certificate.  "If " said Mr.Wrenn, "I knew the name of the boy who is due to fail this year, he would be hard at work at this moment."        Speech Day 1959

Harold's failure was in not recognising that, with such a high selection rate, under-achievement in the 'C' stream should have thrown real questions at the teaching approaches used in the school, rather than simply the under-achievement of the boys concerned.  The school's positive response was smaller classes in 5C.   Graham Tall
