The motto of Rotary is “Service above Self”

In every Rotary club this is achieved by committees devoted to:

• Club Service ... organising club activities
• Vocational Service ... in our professional life
• Community Service ... to address local needs and local charities
• International Service ... through Rotary's world-wide organisation and its own Foundation Charity

The Club Service Committee in Kenilworth Rotary deals with the every-day running of the club and organises fund-raising with a variety of events, including

• The Two Castles Run, annually in July from Warwick Castle to Kenilworth Castle,
• The Art Exhibition at the annual Town and Country Festival in August,
• A Street Collection for a specific charity in the Autumn,
• The Grocery Grab at Sainsburys’ in Kenilworth and Warwick just before Easter,
• Social Activities and other events within Rotary.

Vocational Service concerns itself with various vocational activities in the local community, including

• Young Enterprise, an activity for sixth form students to develop business skills and qualification,
• An annual Citizen Award,
• Other support for the youth of Kenilworth.

Community Service provides support for the local community, including

• The Annual Blackpool Holiday
• Kids Out
• Charitable donations to local causes

International Service provides financial and logistic support for a wide range of international charities. In 2003-4, these will include:

• Shelter Box: Each box provides shelter and support for 10 people in a disaster area
• Aqua Box: Each box contains items for use in a disaster and can purify water for a family of four people for about four months.
• Children of the Andes: provides food, clothing, shelter and education for Columbian street children
• Jaipur Limb Project: supporting the disabled in Mozambique, India, Angola and Bangladesh
• Christian Outreach Support for relief to Afghanistan.
• Uyogo Village Trust Kenilworth Churches have links with Uyogo Village in Tanzaniya. Our link is through theKenilworth Methodist Church. More information is available from St John's Church. (These two links will open in a new window.)
• Farmers’ Action Overseas A group of Worcestershire Farmers in Rotary carry out support in Africa.
• Water Aid Providing Water for those without it, mainly in Africa
• Sangam School: Continue to support Eleanor Nesbitt in her efforts for Sangam School, India.
• Book Aid International: Books to continue to be collected monthly.
• Spectacle Collection to send abroad for use in less fortunate communities.
• Sense International: The only UK charity working with deaf-blind children round the world.
• Sight Savers International: Restoring sight in the Indian sub-continent and Africa.
• Nepal Trust: providing education and food for the street children of Nepal

Foundation

Rotary International has its own Rotary Foundation Charity. This is the largest educational charity in the world and is responsible also for international projects such as Polio Plus to rid the world of Polio, now in its final stages with over 99% success and moving to 100%. Other activities in Rotary Foundation include:

• Foundation Scholars from abroad studying locally for a year at the University of Warwick and elsewhere, also local students themselves spending a yeare abroad.
• Group Study Exchange, by which a group of young business men and women travel abroad for a six week visit to another country whilst we welcome a group to our own District.
