Both birth and wedding certificates state that Bessie's father was John Ball and the birth certificate identifies Little Petherick as the village where she was born. The latter fact was confirmed by Bessie, who gave Little Petherick (Figure 4) as her birthplace in the 1881 Census at Dingley, nr. Market Harborough (see Nichols' family booklet).
